I have a BFA and MA. what are my potential job opportunities?

February 26th, 2010

I’m 22 years old and I have my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. I am currently working towards obtaining my Master’s in Art. Art is a big part of my life, and I love it very much… but I have no idea what job opportunities these degrees will open up for me once I graduate next year. Because I will be getting my MA instead of MFA, I will not yet be able to teach at a college level, so that is not an option right now. I could teach at a Prek-12th level… but I’d need to get my certification. I am considering these options… but I’d like to know if there’s anyone else out there who has any ideas, or is in a similar situation. I have experience in telecounseling and public relations, and I would like to have a job that would involve child counseling/therapy… or basically a position that would allow me to better the lives of others. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
I also want to mention that while being an independent artist is an option, it’s my least favorite. First of all, it’s highly unlikely for a painter to make enough money at the age of 22 by selling his or her paintings. Even if I could, however, I am the kind of person who wants to actually get out in the world and make a difference. Even though I have a degree in Fine Arts, I do not plan on doing that exclusively. Just wanted to clarify that. :)
